Chan Chich Lodge was hacked out of the jungle. It is situated upon the lower plaza of an ancient Mayan village. There is a central lodge surrounded by twelve cabanas. Bordering some portion of all sides of the plaza are unexcavated Mayan structures -- steep-sided mounds covered with centuries of jungle.
