Montezuma Oropendolas nest in large colonies where a selected tree is festooned with intricately woven pendulous structures. This nest tree is near the Chan Chich lodge, and noisy oropendolas were constantly flying in and out of it. However, it was not this bird, but the raucous calls of Brown-hooded, White-crowned, Red-lored and Mealy Parrots, and Olive-throated Parakeets which served as alarm clocks around the lodge each morning at first light. |
